Fabric Varieties

There are many types of fabric, which can be classified by the fibers they are made from, the weave, or the qualities of the fabric:

Fibers

Fabrics can be made from natural or synthetic fibers:

Natural fibers: Derived from plants and animals, such as cotton, silk, wool, and denim. Cotton is breathable and hypoallergenic, silk is soft and elegant, and wool comes from sheep and other animals.

Synthetic fibers: Made from man-made materials, such as rayon, nylon, velvet, and felt. Rayon is semi-synthetic and made from wood pulp, and nylon was the first commercially viable synthetic textile.

Linen Fabric

Linen is a flax-based textile that is predominantly used for homeware applications. While linen is similar to cotton, it is made from fibers derived from the stems of the flax plant instead of the bolls that grow around cotton seeds. Garments made of linen are desirable in hot and humid climate
